Committed

Unfortunately, I have developed the same problem in the living room as I did here, and for the same reason.  Neighborhood cats wandering by, visits from racoons and opossums, all freak out a couple of my cats and they decide to mark their territory by peeing on the carpet in the window area.  And once they do that the smell brings them back to do it again.   And they aren't the only ones that are aware of that smell.

So:

And now I'm committed to the rest of the upstairs because of course I can't just treat that corner and leave the rest.  I figure I've got at least 600 sq ft left to go.

At least my boo boos are numbing up.  The sanding has been tough with a painful hand.

  3. They make these newfangled things called "work gloves". IMHO well worth the rather small price. Very much help when it comes to reducing booboos. I particularly like to use them when handling firewood since spiders love firewood and not all spiders are dangerous but many do bite.

Re: the floors, modern laminates aren't half bad and can be had, when found on sale, especially at Costco, for less than $1.50 sq. ft. I can't claim installation is "easy" but it is a reasonable DIY project.

Of course you'll want to stop the marking before repairing even if relatively inexpensive and DIY. You might want to block the windows with blinds, shades, drapes etc. so your cat(s) don't see the other cats.

Also, you may want to google Feliway (or something similar).

    1. Hate gloves - my hands are too small for women's and too large for kids. I do tolerate them for certain areas of my property because of Mr. Copperhead and because I seem to raise dandy crops of black widows.

I had Feliway going and with all the business of the summer I let it run out. Which started the problem in that part of the house, I think. And once in the carpet they kept going back.

  5. Ouch... not fun and you'll have to be careful of infection, especially with what you're doing...

    1. Yeah, although every time I get that primer in them it sure feels like they are being cauterized.
