Away

I haven't been on-line much, obviously.  Haven't even listened to the news much - my boss will call me when we reopen.  I've been doing all the stuff that never gets done when I'm working.  If it hasn't required me to spend more money it's been patched, sanded, painted, cleaned, cut, weeded - I need a vacation from my enforced "vacation".

And now I'm off to Michigan on a trip that was paid for weeks ago and they took away my government computer so that I couldn't work even if I wanted to donate my time. So even if the government reopens I can't telework from there, which was my original plan.  Not allowed to on a personal computer even if I had the proper programs to do so.  Instead I'll be at Greenfield Village, the Ford Museum, the Detroit Zoo, and the Detroit Institute of Arts Museum.  If we get paid for this time - thank you Momjeans but I still will die rather vote for you.  Or any person from the level of dogcatcher on up who has a "D" by their name.  Silence infers consent - they consented to the ugliness of Reid, et al, by their silence, thinking if they just laid low nobody would notice them. Or they agreed with being ugly.

An ugliness has developed at the kid's house - a neighbor across the canal came out and pointed a rifle at their house to threaten them.  St. Clair Shores PD said that there was nothing illegal about it.  I beg to differ - it's called brandishing and it's a misdemeanor and while I realize that the officers probably needed to see it to make a charge they should have at least gone and informed the neighbor of the law and of the fact that people might view having a gun pointed at them (and wife and baby) as a threat and respond accordingly.  Had my son-in-law not been a person of self-restraint bad things could have happened.

  1. Did they hire their cops from the local mall security force? It is unlawful for any person to point, hold or brandish any firearm or any air or gas operated weapon or any object similar in appearance, whether capable of being fired or not, in such manner as to reasonably induce fear in the mind of another or hold a firearm or any air or gas operated weapon in a public place in such a manner as to reasonably induce fear in the mind of another of being shot or injured. Class 1 Misdomeanor and if they're within 1000 feet of a school Class 6 felony in many states.

I hear you on the "vacation". Nothing about it makes a lick of sense.

  3. Well, for some reason that makes no sense to me, it now appears our unpaid "vacation" will become a paid one. At the same time road turn-outs and parts of the ocean are being closed.

It's not so much the twit in the White House as the many that feel he can do no wrong.

    Sigh!

Saw DIA this summer. I don't get back to Detroit often and wanted to see one of the premier art museums before the vultures settle in. One of the remaining vestiges of Detroit's glory days. Plan a full day. I spent so much time there, I missed the Historical Museum across Woodward

Blew off the zoo this trip as last time reminded me of airlines: fees here and there and everywhere. That's been a while back - maybe the policy has changed

Did Greenfield Village and "The Henry" as well.

Now, I'm old school and I've been in and out of the Museum and Village since I was too young to appreciate it. Back when the ticket booth was inside the front door and one could go upstairs. When no vehicles were allowed in the Village.

The village is still OK but one needs to watch out for cars now. Cute, but they do zip around and you need to watch crossing the streets.

But "The Henry"? A museum intended to be a vision of industrial development has now become a political statement. Many of the fascinating examples of technology development are gone ("in storage") so it's become difficult to trace the physical progress of say vacuum cleaners - or washing machines - or vacuum tubes - or tractors - through the years. What I once saw as a "museum of a museum" based on Ford and Edison's collective vision has now succumbed to liberalism PC and lowest common denominator.

I even saw a poster implying "evil industrialism".
    At Henry Ford's museum!

Different strokes for different folks - you may not be as disappointed as I was. If I ever make it back "home", I'll perhaps enjoy the Village ... but I won't waste my time, money, or implied support to the remnants of what was once a great and unique museum

    1. I guess I'm so accustomed to the Smithsonian and its political leanings that I don't even notice stuff like that anymore. I get more annoyed when museums make flagrant mistakes. Like the Smithsonian labeling Robot as Robbie the Robot. Anyone with a lick of sci-fi knowledge knows the difference!

  4. PS: Drove through St Clair Shores this past summer. Hadn't been there in many decades. Once lived near 12 and Harper. Some things familiar, some things not. The swamp I used to catch pollywogs in is a development now; the drive-in on Little Mack is gone (or I forgot where it was). But the once forbidden shopping center at 13 Mile is still there.

Your adventures stir up my memories

    1. They live on one of the circulating canals a couple miles from there. Nice, nice street. The street one over has The Nuisance House on it, though.

  5. Well let's see how many laws this idiot violated:

Assuming it was pointed with intent at him it is felonious assault.

If the police can't prove that, then

If just waved abut with intent to cause fear it is MCL 750.234e (brandishing a firearm in public).

However, even if they can't prove that, then at the very least aiming the rifle at him in the house is still considered aiming a firearm without malice and MCL 750.233 covers it:

    (1) A person who intentionally but without malice points or aims a firearm at or toward another person is guilty of a misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for not more than 93 days or a fine of not more than $500.00, or both.

And I bet its likely that this was also violated:

MCL 750.237 (possessing a firearm while under the influence of intoxicating liquor or a drug).

In other words, the St. Clair Police don't seem to know the law, so some education is in order.

Give me a ring when you're in town and we'll try and get together.

    1. Thanks for all the info. Dwight is supposed to talk to the sheriff (?) and there's an annoyed city councilwoman involved who thinks the cops need remedial gun law as well.

But at least they DID go over and talk to them.

    1. Turns out the cops did talk to The Nuisance House residents and it was quiet all week while I was there. I was also open carrying most times I went out and D. had set a couple of his big marksman trophies in a back window...
