Need 'Puter Help

Because there's only so much I can do by cell phone...

My computer refuses to connect to either Chrome or Firefox.  It's not a wi-fi problem because the scanner succesfully sent and image via wi-fi.  Anybody out there have any ideas as to what I should do?

  2. Make sure that your DNS address is viable. In your network connection, under properties there is a spot for the DNS address. If it is set to get it automatically from the router - there may be an issue with your provider. You can always enter 8.8.8.8.8 for Google's service. You can also try to bring up a webpage with an IP address only. You are welcome to try my family webpage using it's IP address . . . http://207.177.12.21. If it comes up, it is the DNS issue. If after that, you are welcome to give me a call at 319-640-5532 . . . computers is how I make a livin', be glad to help.

  3. My laptop once refused to connect to the wi-fi signal. A quick review of status showed that the wi-fi was turned off, but it took me 45 minutes to realize I'd pressed the "Wi-fi on/off" button (F11 on my laptop) instead of the "mute" button (F10).

Sometimes it's something really simple. I hope that's all your problem is.

  4. @Laura, eiaftinfo, and Rev - For some reason, I now can only use a Windows 8 version of Chrome. Which seems to open differently. And the only reason I know that is by accident. Which means that once I close it I don't know how to bring it back up again...

  5. Here at your leisure ma'am should you need a hand. I'll offer Murph as a "character reference" should you wish one, met him at the NRA convention. Number above is my work # should you like a hand. Otherwise, as long as it does work with Chrome it will not be the DNS. As for bringing it back up, look for the "Desktop" square and click that, that brings up something that looks much more like Windows 7 on your screen. :)

    1. Alternatively, on the Windows startscreen (the one with tiles), just start typing the name of the program. You don't have to click on anything, just start typing. C H R O The search is automatically activated and a list of the found items will appear. Click on what you want. This also works for Document titles as well as document contents.
