Note to the earth...

Experiencing an earthquake was on my geologic buck list. That was fulfilled by a little one a year or so ago - sharp enough let me know what it was but small enough that I didn't even get out of bed.  There was absolutely no need to hit us with a bigger one today.  Really.  I don't like my house shaking like that.  Really.  Let's not do it again, OK?

  1. As long as you're okay; that's the important thing.

  2. Glad you're ok. Here in Charlotte, NC, the house quivered slightly, but that was all.

  4. Thought the house was sliding down the mountainside. I'm usually pretty calm but it scared the bejabbers out of me until I realized what was going on. Odd thing - I was standing in the yard in my bare feet but couldn't feel it. House was shaking, creaking, and cracking like crazy. Neighbor's pool was slopping. Maybe I was just distracted.

  5. Quakes affect different areas differently but by California terms, this was light to medium ... Californians wouldn't blink an eye - but then they're prepared and expectant.

Something like this hurricane due here this weekend ... which Californians wouldn't be prepared for but doesn't seem to bother people too much around here in the Tidewater.

  7. Years ago in CA I remember waking up slightly and thinking "Gee, the dog musta jumped up on the bed and made it move sideways." Then I woke up some more. We didn't have a dog. "Holy shi*! A quake!" Then I fell back asleep. Sleep deprivation can be useful...
