It appears that folks are out protesting the halt in immigrants from Muslim hot spots. Are those the same people who protested Obama giving Cubans in transit the middle finger as he went out the door, leaving them in limbo?
Oh, wait...

The Difference
Last week there was a big march in D.C. It was called something like the Women's March on Washington 2017. The "trigger" seems to have been President Trump's macho locker room comments a decade ago. I'm sure that Juanita Broaddrick appreciated their support when these same women marched in protest of Bill Clinton's actual attacks on women. And they came out in force when it was learned that Clinton made trips to "Pedophile Island" sans his Secret Service detail: they marched in protest of his use of young, possibly under aged girls in pure objectification for his pleasure. They've also been protesting quite regularly against the horrors and abuse that face women under Sharia rule, particularly where radicals have taken over.
Oh, wait, silly me. Locker room talk: bad. All the rest: phffft.
Of course, the instant the march organizers denied official association to pro-life women's groups you knew exactly what it was about. They couldn't have made it any clearer if they'd danced around with signs that said "I'm a pro-abortion hypocrite!"
So in order to to make America take them seriously as women they marched wearing "pussy hats", dressed as vaginas, carried obscene and vulgar signs, and chanted obscene and vulgar slogans.
Yep, when those images went world wide, it really made people respect American women.
And the speakers...Well, everybody has already heard the audio of Madonna and Ashley Judd presenting their intellectual feminist arguments. But there were some other "feminist leaders" involved that most people don't know much about.
Like Linda Sarsour, one of the organizers. Her feminist credentials are top notch as shown by a tweet she sent out 2013:
You might not know Brigitte Gabriel or Ayaan Hirsi Ali's names, either. They are ferocious opponents of Sharia law. Ali is a leading activist against the Islamic practice of genital mutilation. She knows whereof she speaks - her genitals were mutilated when she was 5 years old.
Linda Sarsour, march organizer, on the other hand, is an advocate of Sharia law and has ties to radical Islamic groups.
Then there was speaker Donna Hylton, a convicted killer who was part of a gang who kidnapped, raped, tortured, and killed a 62 year old gay man. A detective who interviewed Hylton said later:
So, pussy hats, vagina suits, vulgarity, and women who are just dandy representatives of women. And lots and lots of media coverage. Which is a good thing because that allowed millions of people to see and hear what went on and many were repulsed, particularly when they saw that children were in the crowd.
There was a march today, too - the March for Life. It won't get nearly as much media coverage, no matter how many hundreds of thousands are there.
There are no vagina costumes or topless women. There is always pink because the march is heavily attended by women, especially young women. And there are always signs.
There is no vulgarity in speech or behavior, no obscenities. There is always a great deal of something the left hates much more - prayer.
But here is the biggest difference between these two marches: the march last Saturday was about Self. The march today is about Other. And that is why they are so different.

They'd squeezed the victim's testicles with a pair of pliers, beat him, burned him."Psychology Today featured her in an article in 1995. The full text is here.

This One Makes Me Weepy
They come, they go, and I don't recognize the faces on the front of People magazine anymore. But Mary Tyler Moore was forever if only because so much of my laughter was tied to her for, well, decades. And into the Youtube and Chromecast era.

THANK YOU!
Thank you, President Trump, for acknowledging MY choice to not have my money sent overseas to groups that commit or support abortion. Now please stop my money from going to Planned Parenthood.
This issue is where those who say they are for choice so blatantly show their true colors and show how much they hate choice. They deny MY choice and they'll use the club of the US goverment to do so.

In A Violin Case? Huh?
A bit of news popped up recently. It was dated the first week of January. I didn't see anything about it originally. I'm not really surprised. Except the violin case part. That has me scratching my head.
Apparently, someone found a cache of guns while walking along the C&O Canal Towpath. They spotted a violin case. The violin case had a gun in it. Further investigation turned up the cache.
Now, I'm not surprised by the gun cache. There's several things it could be tied to. We're in the midst of a major heroin epidemic - drugs mean turf wars. We are in the middle of a flood of illegals who are bringing gang wars with them. We are near the nation's capital and that means major terrorist targets. The media is whipping the pre-existing hatred of anyone with a non- liberal opinion into a frenzy - at least 2 performers have dropped out from performing at the Trump inaugeration because of death threats. There are several possible explanations for a gun cache. But what flabbergasted me was the whole gun-in-violin-case thing. I mean, really? They didn't think that a violin case left in the woods would stand out?
The story is at http://www.foxnews.com/us/2017/01/04/guns-in-violin-case-other-weapons-found-along-potomac-in-dc.html

Whodda Thunk It Started So Innocently?
Without being able to pit race against race, class against class, liberals have bupkis. They really can't point to any true successes of their policies because their aren't any. So, as we've seen during and after this election, all they've got is name calling and false accusations.
The media does it in a big way, having an inflated opinion of their importance and an inability to grasp that they are becoming superfluous. And if the facts don't fit, they just lie. Witness A&E's now cancelled series about the KKK. Now, it's a running joke that these days that there are very few members of the KKK these days and 99% of them are undercover FBI agents. But you have to have racial conflict in order to hold on to your position so Hey! KKK in America! Important! Except the KKK folks involved have revealed how they were paid, how it was scripted right down to requiring them to use the word "nigger" rather than "black": basically that the so-called KKK reality show was not, well, real. These days if I'm given the choice of believing the KKK or believing the media, I'll believe the KKK. Sort of like if I was told one thing by Obama and the opposite by Putin I'd be inclined to believe Putin.
So what did we learn from this? That reality shows aren't real and that the media lies? Well, DUH!
But that whole thing happened just as I was doing some research before Christmas. Since being a bitterly clinging Deplorable I have apparently contributed to the return of blacks to chattel slavery and the rise of the KKK, I thought I'd do some detailed reading about the history of the Klan. I knew bits and pieces and generalities, but if my vote means I'm a card carrying supporter (still looking for that card) I want to know more details.
What I found was pretty interesting.
The Klan was founded in 1866 by six bored ex-Confederates in Pulaski, TN. It had nothing to do with race, or revenge, or night riding. It was a lark, a club, and the fun was in developing costumes and in making up rituals and titles. The first names suggested for for the club weren't very catchy: The Merry Six or the Pulaski Social Club were vetoed. The men were educated and familiar with college Greek letter societies. Kuklos Adelphon was the favorite, so Ku-Klux. "Klan" was added for some zip. They decided to conceal their identities, so they came up with costumes that were colorful, "hideous and fantastic" and "most flashy." In order to prevent recognition of their voices they communicated by whistles.
That was the origin of the KKK: whistles and costumes, pranks and laughter. It was play, and new members, initiated with silly gestures and donkey's ears pinned to their heads, flocked in to Den No. 1.
Then Den No. 2 was set up across the line in Alabama. It most likely was set up in the same way as Den No. 1, but at some point its members became angry over a school that was set up for black children. And they decided to do something about it. Along with tormenting the students, they adopted an aim of maintaining white supremacy, and this version of the Klan took off in popularity in the former Confederate states. The costumes and secrecy were very useful in terrorizing the black population. It wasn't what the original founders wanted. In 1868, a founder lamented that "the simple object of the original Ku Kluxes" had become "so perverted. Better the Ku Klux had never been heard of."

Earliest known photos of KKK members, 1867 and 1871. The costumes we associate with them were actually adopted from the movie "Birth of a Nation", which was released in 1915.

Holy Cow!
It's been a seriously wierd couple of months in one particular way. Deaths. The deaths have been wierd. The one I've struggled most with has been Charlie's. He was one of the few I kept in contact with after retirement. Charlie represented the absolute best of what our agency once was. His other name was God as far as certain things that the once great Coast and Geodetic Survey did. Not to mention that he could make you laugh so hard you peed your pants. A couple days before Christmas we got an email: Charlie died in a house fire. A flippin house fire. I can grasp Charlie died of a heart attack. Or Charlie died in a car accident. But I'm still struggling with Charlie died in a fire.
Then a few days later: Leo's brother died on Christmas day in the blizzard that hit the Dakotas. He went out to tend to his cattle and he died. Leo is also part of The Good Old Days. So wierd.
Then Harry. From my church group. A few days ago he went to sleep. And just didn't wake up. I'm not only shocked but worried about his wife, who I thought would go much sooner and who I thought was beginning to show some signs of dementia.
Today was a seriously freaky shock and an unpleasant blast from the past. I was skimming through a crime report website for the eastern panhandle of WV and suddenly I saw where a guy who stabbed his clinical social worker to death 14 years ago had finally not only been ruled sane but has been sent to prison for life without parole.
I remember that phone call. My daughter was crying. She graduated from college with the victim. She was trying to help him and he stabbed her over and over and over. Finally, after 14 years, the murderer being put away forever.

R.I.P.
...my sweet Blackberry. You lived twice as long as average with thyroid disease. Your heart was bad and both eyes were taken over by melanoma. Yet you almost made it to 18 - a goodly age for a cat. And to the last, even as your kidneys failed, you liked to snuggle with me as I read. As well as occasionally investigating the bathroom waste basket.

You Know, It Boils Down To One Of Two Things
Leaving out the raging hypocrisy that liberals have honed to an art form, there's only two possibilities for the reason the left is making the accusations it is. If you've heard the news, you know they've reached new heights of disgusting during the Session confirmation hearings, including a protester being removed who didn't even know Session's actual name.
As with so many things, it's really easy to do some homework and find out what Trump really said, what he really did. What Sessions really said, and what he really did. In a minute or two and you can find a record of a complete quote, a record of actions. You and I know that, among other things, Sessions broke the KKK in his home state. Yet somehow confirming him will bring the KKK to power.
So it boils down to one of two things. Either liberals are profoundly and deliberately uneducated and ignorant, or they are liars. And more and more I think it's the latter. I think that because of their "ends justify the means" philosophy, they are happily, merrily, and with a great deal of self-satisfied smugness, lying. They know as well as anyone could that their accusations are false. It's just too easy to investigate things - they HAVE to know.
I have no words to describe the depth of the contempt I feel for these people.

One Little Pill, Two Little Pills...
But at least I can mostly sort of breathe. I dragged my miserable self into Urgent Care Thursday afternoon and asked them to shoot me and put me out of my misery. They said they couldn't do that, but they WERE able to diagnose a sinus infection. In retrospect that would explain why I was waking up with sinus headaches 2 weeks ago. I haven't had the cold from hell - the infection gave me the symptoms of a cold from hell. Anyway, I came home armed for the fight:
I'm still pretty much knocked down, but then I did let it get a bit far along before dealing with it.
One thing I've confirmed the last few days is that I can't eat this $#!+:
I don't mean this particular brand or variety. I just can't stand canned food. I try to eat it and then I throw it away and just go hungry. With the exception of cranberries and pickled beets. But I'm OK with, even though not overly enthused by, dried foods. When I get back on my feet my canned emergency stores are going to the local food pantry and dried foods will replace them. I realize that eventually, in a crisis, I'd eat it whether or no but I figure while I have options I'll take them.
For right now, though, my body needs nutritious fuel, and while I was waiting for my prescriptions to be filled I picked up some groceries. Currently simmering in the slow cooker:
Base layers: shredded cabbage, chicken thighs, apples, cranberries. Liquids and seasonings: chicken broth, ground ginger, ground cinnamon, maple syrup, apple cider vinegar, salt. Recipe is here if you are interested.
I adore the person who invented the crock pot.
I figure that even if I can't taste it real well it's a lot better on so many levels than trying to eat that canned stuff.

Participation Trophy
In case you were wondering, this election cycle did not improve my opinion of liberalism and its adherents. Nope, pretty much confirmed it, from the fact that liberal women could support a woman who enables a sexually predatory husband and is richly supported by regimes like Saudi Arabia but the same liberal women have the hypocritical gall to call Trump anti-woman, to the repeated hate crime hoaxes, to the comparing of us bitterly clinging deplorables to the KKK and Nazis, they displayed and continue to display the self-declared superiority, hatred of true diversity of opinion, and pure ugliness that I've come to associate with them.
And then there's Obama, who is having a temper tantrum as he goes out the door and would clearly happily opt to push us into a war with Russia rather than admit that he has been repudiated. Fortunately, I know that Putin understands exactly what is going on, is having a good laugh, and as long as we don't actually shoot anyone this will be over in a few more days. He's not stupid enough to go to war with us because of an incompetent spoiled brat.
An aside: Apparently the FBI insists that they know that Russia hacked the Dem's computers while at the same time the same FBI says it never actually examined those hacked computers before coming to that conclusion. I'd find that amusing if it wasn't just more despicable and glaring proof of the politicization of our highest law enforcement agencies. Next time, Dems, if you are warned that you are vulnerable to hacking, return the phone call and take steps to prevent it. Until then, hey, which of the e-mails is false? And which voting machine was changed because of the hack? And let's talk about what the recount in Detroit found, shall we?
But back to Obama. He's a little old for it, but apparently he grew up in the "everybody gets an award for participating" generation. So he has given himself one. Really. When you see "Really." read "ARE YOU FLIPPIN KIDDING ME?!" He gave himself a Distinguished Public Service Award. GAVE HIMSELF. Really. Because, according to the speech that followed, there have been no attacks planned and carried out by foreign entities on our home soil during his tenure as president. Maybe he meant Kenya. Because without even doing a search I can think of Fort Hood, Orlando, San Bernadino, Boston... Really.
Fifteen days until that sociopathic narcissist is out of office. Fifteen long days. Never wanted time to move so fast in my life.

Happy New Year!
I'm back home from the wilds of Michigan safe if not sound - I woke up this morning with the sore throat from hell and the day's been like that. Spent the day mostly in bed in the hopes that lots of fluids and rest will hurry the bug on out.
For many of us the New Year actually starts on Jan. 20 this year. And unlike Moochel Obama, who will now have to pay for her own swanky vacations, I see much reason to hope.
