And won't for, well, you've seen what Ida did.  Wierd thing this morning was that he could phone out but not text out.  But we probably won't see an AAR for quite a while.

But he and the menagerie are good.  He's been out a bit but not far.

Murphy's Law

Murphy and the pups, who have sat out Ida just a few blocks from the French Quarter, still have a roof and walls.  No power, and probably won't for weeks but Murph was prepared for that.  It looks like Ida is loosing strength and the bitch just needs to move her ass on.

Because he had to check his watch as the bodies he's responsible for came back from Afghanistan.

Purposeful

I've commented before on how it's so hard to believe that the whirlwind of destruction we've seen since Inauguration Day is purely accidental.  I know there are stupid people.  I know there are inept government officials.  Not to mention avaricious and arrogant.  But this is not like a baby given a hammer and bashing things randomly.   It's as if Joe Biden has known from get go every button to punch to destroy something.  And now Afghanistan.

With regard to Afghanistan, millions of Americans are watching a historic debacle unfolding in real time. They see the hasty and seemingly unfathomable withdrawal of troops by the Biden administration, while thousands of Americans and Afghan loyalists remain stranded behind enemy lines, or stacked up like cord wood at a civilian-controlled Kabul airport increasingly vulnerable to terrorist attacks — even as they learned the military-controlled Bagram Air Base was abandoned in the middle of the night. They know billions of dollars of sophisticated U.S. weaponry, including aircraft, were also left behind and seized by the Taliban. They watch in disgust while a parade of seemingly impotent administration figures, including CIA Director William Burns, plead with terrorists to extend the August 31 withdrawal deadline. And above all else, they watch America’s standing as a superpower virtually evaporate, as Joe Biden has meekly surrendered the most potent military in the world to a ragtag bunch of seventh-century goat herders.

In short, they are appalled by the almost unfathomable level of incompetence demonstrated by this president and his administration. Perhaps they should consider another scenario that elicits a troubling question: What if it’s all by design?

 I embedded a YouTube video.  Which I've done before.  If I look at it on my phone, the video doesn't show.  If I go to web view, it shows.  What's going on?

I Paid About $18 To See A Movie In A Theater

Last night.  I never pay that much.  We have a $5 theater just up the road.  And I have a big TV.  But once in a while a movie needs to be on a big screen, with the whole theater experience.  This month is Gene Roddenberry's 100th birthday.  And the 35th anniversary of the release of the best of all the Star Trek movies, Star Trek IV: The Journey Home.

There were only 5 of us in the theater.  My daughter and her husband went to the earlier show and there were only 12 there. That makes me sad.  Because once there was much joy in dreaming of finding out what's out there.

I smiled all the way from the first musical notes to the end.  Because these are my people.  These are the people we dreamed of in the 60s.  We were multiculturists, we were believers in diversity.  

Now we are called racists.  Bigots.  And a hundred other nasty names.

I was a bit tearful on the way home.  I miss them so much.  Scotty, Bones, and Spock (and his parents) long buried.  Uhuru lost in dementia, Sulu lost in bitterness.  Kirk at least, at 90, still busy.  Chekov mourning the freak death of a son.  

And it all was juxtaposed against the current "leadership" as we leave Afghanistan.

A crew willing to disobey orders and face whatever that brings to do what is right.  Against the lack of a voice crying in the wilderness.

These, these imaginary people, THESE are my people.  And I miss them, and the great heart behind them, so very, very much.

It's being reported that Americans being evacuated from Afghanistan are being charged up to $2000 for the privilege of getting out of the mess their government left them in.

Yet thousands of illegals are being bused and flown all over the US for free.

Startling

Well.  My actual given name is a bit unusual.  Mom said that it was made up by my maternal grandmother and given to Mom's hydrocephalic sister who didn't survive birth.   OK, so I got named after someone who died.  Sigh.

Today I was calling around trying to find a vet to see one of my kitties, Artie.  One of the emergency vet office receptionists answered with her first name.  Pause.  Me: "Excuse me, but what did you say your name was?" ... Me:  "That's MY name!"  Turns out her mother's name is the same.  Her family history says it's a name made up by a great-whatever-grandparent.  I looked up where she says her family roots are.  It's entirely possible that previous generations of our families crossed paths.

As to my grandmother saying she made up the name...she was hell on wheels and not completely attached to honesty.  To say the least.  Also probably mentally ill.  Or Mom misinterpreted what she was told.

My, That Sounds Familiar (Corrected Version)

Except It Didn't Stop There

 Yesterday's speech: "The buck stops here."  Also "It's Trumps fault.  And the Afghani military's fault.  And the Afghani government's fault."

To paraphrase from a favorite movie:  "You keep using that phrase.  I do not think you know what it means."

Stop. Just stop.

Stop saying "Buyer's remorse" about Biden voters.  You don't get to be remorseful.  You just get to OWN IT.  There isn't a single thing that has happened since the election that those who were opposed to Biden didn't say would happen.  The only surprise has been how fast it has happened.

And Yet

 ...they deny there are parallels.

A Nuremberg Code Violation In That

Given that the covid vaccines are experimental, emergency use only, and the Nuremberg Code of 1947 clearly states that "The voluntary consent of the human subject is absolutely essential." it seems like any "mandatory" vaccine orders are clearly a violation of that code.
