Two Places at Once

Guffaw's reflection on blogger drop off brought me back to an issue I've been aggravated with all week.  It occurs to me that maybe some more 'puter minded bloggers who pass by have an answer.

On Monday my agency switched to Google Mail from Thunderbird.  Previously, I just stayed signed in on Blogger and gmail and would periodically take a break and post or work on my own blog.  Now, I can't be in two places at once - I can't be signed into my work account and my personal account at the same time.  In order to post anywhere I have to sign out of my work account, sign in my personal account, do what I want to do, sign out, sign back in my work account, etc.

Anybody know a way around this so I can keep two accounts open on the same machine at the same time?

  1. Open another browser and sign into your personal google accoount to blog in? Are you allowed to have more than one browser on your computer?

  2. Matt is correct: if one mailbox is open in Firefox (for example) you can open a different one in Internet Explorer (another example). Simply opening a second window in the same browser (like Firefox) won't work.

  3. As stated above, the two browser trick works very well.

Also Gmail has IMAP/SMTP access so you should be able to use it via Thunderbird.

  5. ...Gotta remember to uncheck the "Stay logged in" button. There's something about that that confuses things.

  6. I'm glad it's working for you. The only issue I found was that gmail didn't like IE, and insisted on opening only in "basic" format. No matter; I could still see the messages, and that's what counts.

  7. I can't do that from work, so I just don't worry about it...LOL But two browsers open 'should' work...
