I don't specifically remember the news that we had landed on the moon - it was 1969, after all, and sometimes I can barely remember yesterday. But I had to have been aware, even though we were not saturated with news 24/7 in that era. This was A BIG THING.
I DO clearly remember sitting in the family room and watching the events of July 21 unfold as Neil Armstrong made his way down that ladder and onto the surface of the Moon for the first time.
And it occurs to me that no matter how hard some people work to destroy the greatness of America, there's one place where a sign of American accomplishment is still crisp and clear even after 43 years.
I watched it in a bar in Rome... EVERYBODY cheered! :-)

ReplyDeleteThe space program united people in pride in accomplishment. Maybe that's why this administration has hit it so hard.
