Don't You Find It Interesting?

We were told all during the Obama years that the Constitution is a "living document."  Or that it was "outdated."  And I actually had someone say to me in response to a statement I made about something being unconstitutional: "Oh, that doesn't matter anymore."

But, suddenly, when there is a possibility that the flow of new slaves for the Democrat plantation might be cut off, the same people are screaming that the Constitution is sacred, immutable, and should be taken exactly as written.

Obama declared he had a pen and a phone and his supporters cheered.  Well, suck it up, sunshines:  Trump has the same tools.  Goose.  Gander.

Here's The Thing

Right now things are crazy.  There is a clear and present danger to one particular right enumerated in the Bill of Rights.  But on top of my concern about that particular right, there's a layer of annoyance.

I sort of get why this has happened the way it has - guns and ammo are physical things.  They are possessions that can be physically taken from someone.  But major portions of the U.S. Constitution, including the Bill of Rights, have been ignored and violated repeatedly over the last few years.  Except for the occasional court case like Hobby Lobby, the battle for the religious rights abrogated by this administration and its supporters barely merits a peep anymore.  And no one seems to notice the steady extension of power that is being given to agencies like Homeland Security - an agency I don't think should ever have been created in the first place. 

We are fortunate that Barack Obama is lazy.  If he had the drive of a Hitler, this would have already cascaded into a full fledged tyranny.  But the problem isn't just with this administration.  We have a Congress full of people who are far more concerned about maintaining their comfortable positions and power and in pandering than than they are concerned about the Constitution they swore to uphold.

This administration is blatant.  But it was preceded by ones that meant well, but set the table for this.

All of which is underpinned by two generations who have had an easy life compared to the generations who came before.  The "Me Generation" has been rolled into the "Gimme Generation", creating millions content  to just be fat, dumb, and happy.  They have little concept of what true want or lack of freedom means, and having no interest in history, slide through life with equally little concept of what their decisions mean.

The ability to think analytically and to sustain a rational, fact-based debate is virtually invisible.  What I hear would not pass muster for a high school debating team, and yet it drives policy.

So, what do we do now?  Let's say the administration backs down on this.  But this is just a piece of what's wrong.  Where do we go from here?

Natural born citizen

I haven't paid a lot of attention to the birth certificate issue - it will work out one way or the other, regardless of what the JUST resolution should be.  Obama is basically a thug who has lots of thug contacts and lots of power that can be used to get in the way of anyone trying to get to the truth of the matter.  And he is also so into himself and his own power that he might withhold a perfectly valid birth certificate just because he felt like it.

This article by Michael LeMieux concerning the issue of the definition of "natural born citizen" is an interesting one, as it lays out the source and thinking behind that particular constitutional requirement for a president:

"There are those that tend to dismiss this stating the Constitution does not define what the term “natural born Citizen” means therefore we will assume it must mean born within the physical United States boundaries vice a naturalized citizen. They would be in error.

Throughout the Constitution the writers used the term citizen numerous times but only here did they differentiate a specific classification of citizen even different than a naturalized citizen identified elsewhere. The founders would not have identified a specific kind of citizen unless it was for a specific reason."

"In a correspondence between Benjamin Franklin and Charles William Frederic Dumas, Franklin stated:[2] “I am much obliged by the kind present you have made us of your edition of Vattel. It came to us in good season, when the circumstances of a rising state make it necessary frequently to consult the law of nations.” (Emphasis added) So not only where they familiar with the “Law of Nations” but they consulted it frequently.

It should not be surprising that within Vattel’s Law of Nations the term “natural-born Citizen” was defined as: “The natives, or natural-born citizens, are those born in the country, of parents who are citizens.” (Emphasis added) Notice the plural use for parentage."

There are a lot of people who would have us think that the Constitution is too hard for the general U.S. citizen to read and understand.  And that any understanding of it is entangled in 200 years of case law requiring specialists.  No.  It takes some work but it's OUR Constitution, and we need to reclaim it.
