Possible Derecho Redo

About a year ago the D.C. metro area got slammed with straight line winds of tornadic force.  We learned a new word - derecho.  It caught us by surprise, did about $1 billion in damage, and killed 13 people.  And I was about one step behind the cats as they dashed for the closest thing to shelter in the house, the laundry room. It was SCARY.  The only other time I've heard a roar like that was when a tornado hit nearby.

Apparently, meteorologists learned some new predictive skills from it because they've put out a forecast for the area for tomorrow that includes the possibility of another derecho.  So if you live anywhere from Iowa to the Atlantic, hunker down.  The system coming across is supposed to be a bugger.

Of course, I need to be out  ...

    1. Looks like the worst might be overnight. Lovely. Maybe I'll sleep downstairs.

    2. I take it back. Tomorrow afternoon. When I'm supposed to be feeding the homeless at a local park.

    1. There's an elm and an oak at one corner of the house I have concerns about. Haven't had them taken down because of expense and the fact that I don't want to leave the slope any more open to erosion than it already is. But high wind makes me very nervous.

  3. Be safe - My main residence is northeast of here and right in the path of that thing, and I'm envisioning the 100 year old trees around it. But I'm at the crash pad, hours away, going on call tomorrow, so not much I can do. The truck is in the garage, Barkley is walked, water and flashlights and such handy.

    And Scotch.

    1. Haha! No Scotch, but plenty of other stuff. And if I can't get off the mountain and we loose power I'll be feeding chicken wings to the whole block.
