Since this is my first, and maybe even my last, post to a blog, I'll be self absorbed and do the "a little bit about me" thing. And I warn that my lack of computer knowledge may cause various cock-ups along the way.
I live on a mountain above the Shenandoah River, near Lagniappe's Lair. I'm a geodesist with a geology degree, and a desire to retire and do something else. I'm a loner who likes people, which is sometimes an awkward thing. I am a proud hillbilly, the descendant of folks who came into the country mostly during the 1600-1700s and ended up following the Indian migration trails that had become wagon trails looking for more space and land of their own. Others came during the Famine and eventually ended up on the same mountain. Most of both sides of the family chose the mountains of what would become Preston County, WV, to try to carve a living out of - farmers, miners, coopers, loggers. I'm very proud of my ancestors, and of the cousins who are still farming the same land and who I see each year at Reunion. The baby in the dress in the picture I've got posted in my profile is my daddy, taken outside what would become Grandma's House in the Whetsell Settlement.
I'm extremely conservative, annoyingly religious (i.e. I actually believe that my knowledge and will are not greater than God's or His established Church - and yes, I will debate that), and am really cheesed off by the fact that analytical thinking and true debate has been replaced by emotional arm-waving.
I'd rather be outside and filthy dirty digging in dirt than anything else in the world. But I'm finding that being out shooting guns is a lot of fun, too. And I want to get good at it - no sense just fiddling around with something like that.
